Recap
We played well today and controlled some key areas of the pitch we wanted to take away from our opponents. We created a number of promising attacks, with Pfupa delivering some excellent crosses, while Cussans linked up well with Kearley and Mead in the final third.
McKenna and Townsend both adapted well to new roles, and pleasingly we eliminated one of the areas that had been a concern for us in recent weeks.
Our goal came from a flowing move finished well by Acey Mead, sending us into the break level at 1–1.
Unfortunately, two penalties ultimately cost us the game. The second came with just a minute remaining, following a failed clearance and an outstretched leg from the wrong side that gave the referee the decision to point to the spot.
It was hard lines when a draw would probably have been a fair result, but there are lessons to take.
On the positive side, we conceded nothing from open play and had large spells where we were the better side.
Man of the Match goes to young Mitch Kearley
