Wembdon U13 Dragons 4 Middlezoy U13s 3

Middlezoy U13s made the trip across town to Wembdon in hope of gaining momentum on their recent away cup win. Both teams had a bare 11 players and Middlezoy saw most of the football in the opening minutes but could not make the breakthrough with a well organised Wembdon defence. Wembdon then turned on the pressure with shot after shot but our stand in goalkeeper Ollie Leader was equal to the bombardment. Finally, after 15 mins Wembdon took the lead looping the goalkeeper, standing very little chance. Middlezoy responded very well with a fantastic through ball to Elliot who netted the equaliser, 1-1. A few minutes later Wembdon took the lead again to take it into the halfway point 2-1. Wembdon definitely wanted the win and showed their intent straight from the whistle by applying pressure across the midfield areas and feeding the ball to their attacking line. Wembdon increased their lead to make it 3-1 and put us on the back foot, when we were reduced to 10 players with one of our key players off the pitch receiving medical attention. Questions were being asked of Middlezoy’s character, but we soon hit back with an Ollie H bundled in a corner set piece making it 3-2 and an interesting last ten minutes. Middlezoy kept on searching for an equaliser, but we were then hit with a sucker punch, Wembdon extended their lead 4-2 with 5 minutes to play. Middlezoy fired everything at Wembdon and were finally rewarded with a captain’s goal, Connor slotted it home to cause panic amongst the Wembdon players 4-3. Unfortunately, the whistle was blown, in a good-natured game and refereed very well to make the final score 4-3 to the hosts Wembdon. Player of the match for Middlezoy was Ollie Leader for his outstanding goal keeping efforts.
