Zoy Rovers U13 VS Ashcott Youth U13.
We hosted the return fixture against the top of the table Ashcott on a sunny Saturday morning at the impressive Ethan Berry pavilion. The pitch was in prestige condition.
Co-manager James refereed the game and Jason ran the line, most of the game, so the team had to take responsibility in managing on field decisions. Middlezoy were under pressure almost immediately with a high pressing line from Ashcott forcing Middlezoy to play deep within their own half. Ashcott were showing why they were table leaders with impressive attacking play through the Middlezoy heart of defence, but Middlezoy were staying disciplined by not making unrecoverable mistakes in the penalty area keeping Ashcott frustrated with countless efforts. 20 minutes of constant pressure was relieved with Middlezoy finally playing the ball up in the Ashcott final third to force the first Middlezoy corner of the game. A really good delivery in and a poor clearance gave Marley the chance to finish from 5 yards out to give Middlezoy the lead against the run of play 1-0. We grew in confidence and some nice passing football through the thirds to ask questions of the Ashcott defence. Ashcott then fired home from close range to make the score tied 1-1 before half time. Second half started with Ashcott forcing play and continued their high line press, catching Middlezoy out on two occasions with over-the-top balls within the space of 10 minutes to make the score 3-1. With only 1 substitute from each team the players were very tiered from their efforts, but Ashcott had the momentum and created another chance ending the game 4-1. The game didn’t reflect the final score and Middlezoy played well but unfortunately just didn’t have the luck.
Man if the match Liam H for his outstanding work rate and performance, growing more confident in his midfield role
